Nurse Practitioner

Anneke Barkwith

“Nurse Practitioners are advanced nurses who have completed Clinical Masters Degrees in order to be able to expand their practice to diagnosing, prescribing and having a lead clinician role in patient care.  Internationally, the role has helped to provide advanced nursing perspectives in multidisciplinary teams.  There are now more than 500 nurse practitioners in New Zealand spanning across many specialty areas.  We are excited to provide Nurse Practitioner services in Hub Aged Care.  Evidence shows that when Nurse Practitioners are integrated into a clinical team, patient satisfaction with the care model increases so we are confident that having a Nurse Partitioner working alongside our medical team will help provide care to a high level with an holistic approach.

Anneke Barkwith is a Nurse Practitioner who specialises in Aged Care, and was mentored through her training programme by our clinical director Dr Dhillon.  Together they have established a strong working relationship that translates into excellent patient care.  Her experience across Palliative Care and Aged Care services have given her a passion for health of the older person across the spectrum from independent living through to end of life care.  She has presented at national conferences about Aged Care and Dementia Care with a desire to instil enthusiasm in other clinicians about high quality care for our older generation.  Anneke’s strengths lie in her communication, clinical decision making and knowledge about the unique experience of transitioning into a residential facility.  She has a strong link with other specialist services and has set up clinical initiatives to improve care between Aged Care, DHB and the hospice.”
